VA Civil Rights Memorial Unveiling and Dedication Ceremony. This memorial, on the grounds of Virginia's historic state capitol in Richmond, Virginia, celebrates these heroes and also serves to remind us of the debt we all owe to the sacrifice and courage of a few. It will give the thousands of students who visit Capitol Square every school year an opportunity to learn important lessons from a pivotal time in Virginia's history and inspire future generations.

Celebrate the unveing of this incredible memorial to these Americans.

Virginia Library Program - Tracking Money in Virginia Politics. The League of Women Voters of Virginia and the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) are co-sponsoring a "brown bag lunch" program with David Poole, executive director and founder of the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP). Mr. Poole will discuss VPAP and demonstrate how to access VPAP's website to find information on contributions to candidates for public office in Virginia. The program will help citizens better understand the political process.

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 All Day Throughout the Nation Women's Equality Day - 19th Amendment Ratified. On August 26, 1920 a constitutional amendment is adopted when Tennessee ratifies it, granting full woman suffrage in all states of the United States.

Tuesday, November 04, 2008 6:00am - 7:00pm Throughout Virginia November General Election. Deadlines:
  • Last day to register to vote: Monday, October 6
  • Last day to apply for absentee ballot by mail: Tuesday, October 28
  • Last day to vote absentee in person: Saturday, November 1

In addition to electing the US President, other candidates will be on the ballot. See the State Board of Elections website for candidate lists as they are certified.
